Subject: RE: Best Water Fountain? Pic - also rub for flies

Driftless SW Wisconsin

I agree on the Petersen. Here is their website

I have had a Petersen 34C for four years now including down to -30 degrees F in January last year. No problems.

The key to any waterer is the installation.

I took a picture of my waterer installation today I can add.  I was actually taking the picture for the cattle rub.

The calves were going around the end of the 8 ft rub in a 12 ft wide lane. So I added another 4 ft section and some more of the hanging "flyps" I think they are called to get the face flies.

But the photo shows the waterer in the background. There are times of the year I close a gate to the middle near the tub and the waterer serves to groups - weaned calves on one side, everybody else on the other side - and does a great job. Plenty of water for a lot of cattle.

Cattle including my bull scratch their chins on the corners, etc. This is a concrete waterer that weighs maybe 500-600 lb. It is set down on roof flashing cement (get the good stuff) and it does not move.

Here is the Rub picture showing the Petersen waterer in the background. All of my cattle need to pass under this or another rub to get to water. Once they figured it out they seem to like to stand under it etc. That is a Mineralyx tub in the foreground. There is a salt block in the back.
