Subject: RE: Yield monitor question

That box is a dinosaur today.  It is the first yield monitor C-IH put out.  It worked very well and was very accurate.   As Torn said, it uses SRAM cards and Windows  98 is the only operating system that will consistently read them.  I think I was able to read them in Win 2000 (after jumping through a lot of hoops) but I don't remember every getting Windows XP to read them.

I am not sure on this, but I think an AgLeader PF3000 could be dropped in place of the black box monitor using the same cables.  Someone will correct me if I am wrong.  The 3000 is discontinued, but it uses flash cards.  They are much easier to read.  I am sure there are still some PF3000's around that could be had very cheap.  I still have several of the flash cards around.

The PF3000 will work with that combine but it will not plug right in. The wiring pattern for the 25 pin connector is different (reversed as I recall with Pin 1 being Pin 25, Pin 2 being Pin 24 etc.). Also the GPS gets into the black box via the 25 Pin connector rather than a separate 9 pin.

Ag Leader made (they may still have some) cable adapters for this exact situation. This would allow a PF3000 to work with the combine.

I got into a situation a couple of times where people wanted to keep their PF3000 for a newer trade up combine that had the black box in it. Ag Leader's cable would allow the PF3000 to work with the newer combine so that part was easy.

The difficult part was making the reverse adapter so that the black AFS box could be put back into the older combine that was traded in. Ag Leader does not make this reverse cable as it would not suit their purposes. I reverse engineered Ag Leader's cable to make an adapter for the other situation.

As has been stated, a CF card with an adapter sleeve will work fine with the PF3000 but the CF card must be rather small as far as capacity is concerned. These smaller cards are more difficult to obtain since everybody wants the huge cards for their cameras now that they are so cheap.

The other issue that has not been mentioned is that there will need to be a GPS receiver involved for mapping which is not essential for Yield Monitoring.
