| Yes, I think you are on the right track. Buy a bunch of old shell cows this fall Late Oct - Dec, put them on a dirt field so you don't have to mess with manure hauling and feed them free choice silage, forget the grain and rye pasture. Those old girls will put on 2lb/day if they are green when you get them and the silage was good irrigated corn with lots of energy, start them out on hay and work up the silage and then remove the hay. Don't know how much silage you got, but I suspect you are going to need a lot of cows to burn through a few thousand ton of silage by spring. Implants pay on cull cows, but sounds like you don't really have working facilities. Shouldn't need any real vet attention on cull cows if your buyer doesn't buy you a bunch that got two feet in the grave when they haul them in. Find someone with a portable facility and hire a few cowboys to come in and round them up for you when you haul them out. Lots of buying competition on fat cows so do your homework and don't just haul them to a sale barn unless they got a good cow market with good competition
