Woodham, Ontario | Just curious what you grow to feed to your dairy heifers. Right now when we seed alfalfa we also seed a covercrop of oats, barley and peas. The first cut is put in a seperate bunk and fed to the heifers with haylage, corn silage and sometimes straw.
This year the corn silage should be mature earlier than usual thanks to an early spring and good growing conditions (so far. don't want to jinx it!). Thinking about maybe seeding some barley after corn-silage, cutting it for silage. Doubt I could still plant corn on it, but I could seed soybeans too for some rotation.
Just wondering what works for other and how you do it. | |
