Subject: Re: PTO Grinder-Mixers?

Northeast Iowa
We have an Art's-Way PM30 two-high roller mill. It's been sitting for two years since we got out of hogs. The double roller always did an excellent job on micron size. We'd send samples in and our nutritionist was always impressed with the uniformity of the grind for getting the microns down that low. The guy who used to work for us in the hog department ran it all the time, so I can't quote you any numbers on pounds-per-minute, but we ran it with a JD 4030 and then a 4240. I can put you in touch with him, though, if you want to hear some firsthand experience with it.

We had our combine in for the service program one year and someone apparently didn't get all the bolts tightened down they should have. They came loose, when through the combine, the dryer and the grain system before coming to their final resting place between the rollers of the mill. At least, we were pretty sure that's what happened when a couple of John Deere green bolts were found in the rollers. So we got to put new rollers in the mill. Then we got out of hogs a year or so later, so they really didn't get put to use as well as we'd hoped (or budgeted.)

As someone else said, the Art's-Way auger has excellent reach. We put an extension on and had no problems reaching tall bulk bins.

My email's in my profile if you want to talk to my former employee to see what you could expect from it and get his opinion. Or, depending on where you are in Iowa, stop over and take a look at it.
