Same with EPD's in cattle. Big name breeders use their bulls on their best cows and use semen from other well known bulls on their worst cows. After about three years, the EPD's on their bulls are sky high and they sell lots of semen. After a couple of years in the general cattle population the EPD's start dropping. Worst mess I ever got into was using high EPD bulls.
