My sons used to show pigs at the county fair, we chose pigs out of our finishing unit.  The judge would pick the high priced pigs and our pigs were mostly receiving red ribbons.  What was interesting was after the show was over and the hogs had gone to slaughter everyone got copies of the cut outs and % lean of the hogs.  Ours was always near the top and those hogs getting purple ribbons were near in the middle or near the bottom. 

The hog show used to be the largest in the state but now the pig numbers are way down. I think I know why.
