Thanks for the replies.

I installed the latest on the Unbutu site, and yes this is my first experience with Linux. I installed it on this old drive before I took it out of the machine and I now run it via USB. Within file system I only see the two partitions of my main (internal) hard drive,the cd , and all the flash drives but no mention of the 30 gig USB hard drive it is running from.
From Windows XP I can see the files on the old hard drive that is run with a USB and I see that Windows is no longer there, that surprised me. I get the OS boot choice on start up but it is the OS on the internal drive and Unbutu on the old drive.

The OS is fun to play with and I hope to find a driver for a scanner that is not supported for Windows. I imagine I'll stumble onto the solution.
