I use Firefox because it's not BETA* like chrome and because it has a number of extensions that I find useful.  One of them is Ad Block Plus.  I find that really speeds up page loads on many sites.  I have it turned off on this site.

I was looking at Chrome this morning and found a ton of new extensions, among them is Ad Block and one other.  Chrome is getting better and may at some point overtake Firefox with all it's capablilty.  For a lot of minimum users Chrome is probably a good browser. 

As to the load speeds I think it has more to do with the site than the brower in the instance you mentioned.  I've had times where I was able to reply instantly and other times where I had to wait for 15 to 20 seconds, maybe more.

 

And before somebody wastes their energy telling me it's not BETA this is the latest visit to Google.
