I downloaded desktops.exe from Windows Sysinternals.  It gives you 4 desktops.  However when I went to the 2nd desktop it copied all the links, files and shortcuts from my original desktop.  I deleted one shortcut and went back to the first desktop and found it was gone there too. 

I had envisioned multiple desktops like my linux machine that one could be for graphics, one for business, one for junk and one for general users.

Do any of you know of a program that will do that for Windows Vista Ultimate?  Or did I miss something in the program.  There were no setup options that indicated anything along those lines.
