Trac Mate and Site Mate will run on any device with a Windows Operating System. This includes Windows Mobile, Windows CE as well as 98, XP, Vista and Windows 7. I know a lot of our customers run the software on phones with Windows Mobile. I also am seeing users running the software with the cheaper Net-Books. These aren't as portable, but they have the advantage of a larger screen and a real keyboard. The only drawback to the Net-Books is that most screens are not terribly daylight readable.
One thing to consider is whether you have any plans to use the device with GPS in the future. If so make sure that the device has either Blue Tooth or a Compact Flash card slot so you can add a low-end GPS receiver.
