Keep in mind when that question comes up, that 4 years ago, we were in the midst of the Covid epidemic, there were reports of people dying, we were in lockdown, etc, etc.

So, in reality, if we were WORSE off than 4 years ago, it would be pathetic, indeed.

The question to ask, is are we better off now, than 3 years ago, or 5 years ago, because Covid and the lockdowns were (hopefully) a one time event. Unemployment went from 4% to 14% almost overnight, and some of the worst of it was in April of 2020. The Stock market tanked, and GDP shrunk instead of grew.
