Have you (or him), looked at the AF/AL Edge monitor and the Ontrac 2 steering system? Very good steering performance, quiet, durable, behind steering wheel out of the way of your fingers, expandable in future to hydraulic steering.
Edge also does yield monitoring, combine steering, prayer control, planter control etc...
