South Eastern ,ILL
Bought this 1975 IH 1466 last fall for an auger and misc. tractor. It had 3600 hrs, new clutch,TA, was a previous cab tractor and a little rough. We put new spindles, bearings, lights, batteries, alt, seat, belts, new front tire, two new
rears, new stainless steel bolts, primer and paint. We will use this tractor, but may show it a time or two. My son and employee did an excellent job. The muscle tractor era was a time I really enjoyed, never had a 1466, but always thought they were pretty
stout.

Excellent restoration.. must be one heck of an auger, or you're gonna have some extra horsepower no doubt! Beautiful job!

I always liked the looks of a nicely restored '56 '66 or '86 series tractor, the 8 cylinder's were pretty neat looking too.
Nice work.

you may want to consider putting on 66 series fenders if you plan to show it. they were a pretty tractor for sure! always glad to see another one saved from the scrap yard. thanks for sharing those pics!

dakotadirt...I didn't think I had the right finders either, order a new set and they were exactly like what I had, so I measured a neighbors ,and they were the same also.

That is amazing! Top notch for sure.

I see a lot of tractor resto's on here, and wondered how and what you use to clean the engine?

The engine was remarkably clean with no oil leaks, so wasn't very hard to clean.

You have a nice looking tractor. Had an old farmer say that series and vintage tractor just about broke him. TA's and weak rearends. Having any tractor in the shop on something major like this can put a dampner on the bootom line. Now the reason for the failures was probably tied to the strength of that motor. An old IH guy told me once , put the IH engine in front of a JD drivetrain and you would have a bulletproof combination.

West Texas

Rebuilt the rear end on my 1086 and most of the gears and shafts came out of a 1486 at the salvage yard. All the same rear ends.

I would be if you had an engine that would lug worth a crap in front of those JD rears they'd have given issues too.............

You may all ready know this on those 66 and 86 series tractors you should run the H-Tran fluid over full on the dipstick about 1/4 to 3/8 inch over full that will help lube those rear end bearings better.

That is one sweet looking tractor. I love seeing those '66 series restored but thats where my love affair with them ends. I spent a lot of time on a 1566 (we still have it and use it occasionally) and all I can do is shake my head. The deeres of that era were soooo much more operator friendly.

Nice pics, what are the filters on the left hand side, I know the ones on the right hand are engine oil filters, seem kinda big to be fuel filters, I've never really been around the IH much. Thanks for posting

1000 Moline, I don't suppose you happen to have a restored 1000 MM, and could post some pictures if you do? Good looking tractor without the cab, all of the 66's here had the ugly cabs that have a virtual hallway from the door to the seat, just ruins the appearance of the tractor.

Thanks for the picture.  That, IMHO is the best looking tractor ever built.

Both the IH and MM are very sharp. When you are finished doing the work yourself, they are worth more!
