There is a 9110 close to me that they plant and grain cart with. Think that would be a good one for those jobs.

What are the opions here of the 9330's Would they make a good main tillage tractor on a 1000 acre farm

cropsey, il 61731 | I thought it had the 5.9 cummins (that would be tiny), but it looks like it's an 8.3 like the 9130. I thought there was a Steiger version (just before the 91xx series) that had the 5.9L. Here is the dater: http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/001/0/7/1074-steiger-9110.... thanks, Pat PS: It looks like the 9390 had an 855 of some sort: http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/001/2/2/1226-caseih-9390-e... but I thought there was a 9190 that had maybe the 1150 engine and the older style steiger cab, but painted red.

We ran a 9230 for 4 or 5 years. Part of that time it was our main tillage tractor then we added a NHV 9282 to go along with it. The 9230 had a 8.3 Cummins (as did the 9282) & was rated at 245hp. I believe the 9282 was rated at 260 hp. With both tractors we pulled DMI 530B disc rippers , 32 1/2" DMI field cultivators, and 17 knife AA applicators. The 9230 had a 12 spd powershift transmission with the "skip shift" feature which let you shift from 1-4 then shift 2 gears at a time after that when used which made it nicer getting up to speed as any time you stopped the trany went back to 1st gear. The 9230 has a short wheelbase & with only a 110 gal fuel tank over the rear differential the weight wasn't distributed proportionally resulting in severe wheel hop under heavy loads. We eventually added about 1,600# of weight above the drawbar which helped a lot. Otherwise with the disc ripper in tough pullling spots youcouldn't keep your rear in the seat unless you braced your feet against something & literally shoved yourself back into the seat. I had times where it hopped so bad before adding the rear weight I couldn't get my foot on the clutch to stop the thing, only was able to stop by pulling back on the throttle. One bad feature of the powershift is that there is a hesitation between 6th & 7th gear. This is natural in all of CIHs 12 spd pshifts. Under heavy load such as the disc ripper the tractor would almost come to a stop when shifting either up or down between 6th & 7th then leap forward when it finally engaged. Seemed like these were the 2 gears we used the most in the field & quickly learned to use the deaccelerator instead of downshifting from 7th to 6th on the ends. The 9282 had a 12 spd manual tranny so there was no shifting with it under load so it wasn't that big a deal with the 9230 but defeated the purpose of the ps. My other complaint with both these tractors was the we experienced a lot of head gasket, head, & exhaust manifold problems with both tractors. While we owned the 9230 we had several exhaust manifold bolts break, replaced 2 head gaskets & replaced the head & exhaust manifold once. Replaced the head & head gasket once in the three years we owned the 9282 After we replaced the head on the 9230 we had the pump sent into a pump shop & found the previous owner had it set to over 300 hp which didn't help things. We had it sit baack down to 275 hp but traded both tractors for one bigger 4wd not long afterwards. Our experiences has left a sour taste in my mouth on the 9230 but in all fairness I think a lot of the problems was from the previous owner having the pump turned up so much. I think that if the tractor had been left original or turned up no more than 20 hp we wouldn't have had a lot of problems that we had. I know these engines are used in many combines at 300+ hp but you're looking at a differnet type of requirement being placed on the engine in a tractor over a combine. Either of these two tractors would make a nice size 4wd tractor on a 1,000 - 1,500 ac farm. Personally though, I would take the 9282 over the 9230. Much smoother ride beacause of the longer wheel base & more comfortable cab though that big hood makes seeing in front of you a little more difficult than the shorter hood of the CIH. I know of one 9330 in this area on a similiar size farm & the owner was quite pleased with the tractor. If you could find one with pto they make a nice grain cart tractor as well. CIH also produced a 9130 as well & went to the 92 series before going to the 93 series. Seems like the 9110 was in the 190-195hp range and the 9130 was around 225. The 9210 was rated around 200-205 hp & the 9230 was rated around 240-245hp as was the 9330. I might be slighlty off on these hp ratings Edited by boog 12/20/2008 20:51

Itta Bena Mississippi | I'd best most of the 9110s went to the south side of Lake Ockochobee and were ROPS tractors. Everytime I went down that way I saw a slug of them at US Sugar. Tom

Eastern VA. No such thing as too many Magnums. | I didn't look at the video in the original post, but there are thousands and thousands of 9110s, 9210s, and 9310s in south Florida. They were open ROPS Steigers and I bought one down there. We love it. It is perfect for pulling and pushing for the Amigos. 12 speed powershift. 200 hp Cummins 8.3s. Single 24.5R-32s. (so as not to knock down the next row of cane) Most were bareback but some had 3pt. They were built especially for the Sugar companies down there to pull dump carts that followed the cane harvesters. They buy tractors by the trainload. At the time they liquidated mine, they were mostly buying cab tractors. STX275s or even Deere 8220s. Here is a pic of mine and some that were on the auction line down at the Sugar factory at that time. George (Fla. Veggie) worked on a farm just a couple miles from where this picture was taken. That farm had a bunch of them. They're very reliable, but not pretty. I really like my 9330, it has the RCS 3pth and PTO, I use it for tillage, 11 shank soil saver, 24 foot disc, 30 foot cultivator, pulling 1600 bushel grain cart and for manure injection with a liquid tanker. Its not quie as heavy built as the 9350 series, but its more than enough for my farm and the amount of custom work I do. The 12 speed ps is nice with the skip shift, but theres a space between 6-7 that makes for a jump if you arent careful. Also its a little light and you need to weight it up a little for tillage. But overall its been really good tractor for me. Only major problem was an transmission acuator failure at 2200 hours. Dealer fixed it fast and havent had any other issues. I havent used it as much this year since I got a MX275 last fall.
