Anyone out there running the new cable drives on the Agco White planter? Just wondering how you are getting along. Looks like they would work smooth and no trash getting in them like the chain drives. Thinking of trading planters after this year and was wanting opinions on how they work.

We have 4 customers running them. A few issues with the gearbox on the hex shaft, but no problems with the cables. I think once they get the kinks worked out, it will be a great system.

What issues are you seeing with the gearboxes? Are they slipping?

First is seed shaft end.
Attaches to seed shaft at left side. Cable goes across unit to drive meter from the right side.

Second pic is the meter end.

Third is from under the seed shaft.

All have built in clutches.

Really don't see anything wrong with chains.

Just bought an 8824 white and have planted over 1000acres with and has been working well so far! Only had one clutch strip because of their seed plates that were recalled, created so much resistance the disc could barely turn in the housing.
Btw its a flexible shaft that drives the row unit instead of the chain drive.

The cable doesnt "shear" like its supposed to. Seed discs are binding in the meter, chucking out the gearbox instead.

How did you determine it was gearbox on the shaft when you replaced did you replace clutch also or just that gearbox?

Me either, but Deere has "Pro Drives" so Agco has to have them too....

Keep It Simple Stupid.

Before I went to laying out the $'s for a new planter with hyd drive, cable drives for the row and row clutches I'd look into a Kinze with electric drives or the Graham electric drives.

Either that or put a hyd motor on each row.

Is chains would not work on the 1790 with the units that point to the moon when not in use.

So they had to make something that would work, And it would better a 'Much Better Deal'

Then sell them for the rest of the line, for planters already in the field, and for other brands of planters.

The only better I can see is no-til in cornstalks or other tall stuff.

Have no idea how many miles of planter mark I have driven down, but only had unit drive chains come off twice.
But the early planters were shaft drive, kinda like Pro-Drive.

The comment about the seed plates got me wondering . Which ones are getting recalled . I have a set but haven't used them yet. How do we know if they are bad or not.
