I bought a 10' Brillion cultipacker and the wheels are different than most packers i see.It has thin sprocket wheels in between the round wheels. What does this design do differently than the more common wheels without sprockets?

We had a Dunnham(SP?) packer like that...........Worked pretty good I thought. It was imported to PA from else where because I never seen another around here like it. Most here had crowfeet and the rest had solid.

Dad always said those spiked wheels were supposed to break up clods better. I don't know about that but we usually took them off if we took the packer apart for some reason.

Seen those on a lot of old packers, I was told they wouldn't ball up with mud as bad if you were on wet ground as the sprocket type would shed the mud off of the packers. Don't know if it works or not, never ran one. Everyone here uses Schmeiser types, supposedly for the same reason.

deep SW On.
we use a brillion x fold with the star wheels, reason for stars is to mulch soil between smooth packer wheels and doesn't crust or run water as bad in heavy rain...if you know where there is a small brillion pup I need some stars and would like a few smooth rollers (4" pipe shaft)

Our old one that Dad had for years has the alternating style as shown in the pics. We are renting a newer one from a neighbor for soybeans at the moment. This is the style that has bearings and all rings with no stars.
It doesnt' follow the lay of the land like the old one of ours does but it is not so noisy and much wider.
Yesterday I noticed a small roller that had a tandem design on my way around town. The front roller looked like others I had seen but it had a second set of roller that were smaller in diameter. Possibly this was for lawn work as it was not very wide.
