Subject: Grain carts??

NE SD

Lets hear it- horror stories etc.

Seems like all of the manufacturers are coming out with bigger models. I see Brent now offers a 1500bu. model and our J&M dealer is advertising a new 1325 model for 2007. Anyone have pictures of either of these?? How does the J&M unload?

We're going to be upgrading this year. Dad wants to look at Kinze and J&M. Would probably go 1-2 year old on the Kinze because........geez they're high priced. I prefer the simplicity and cost of the J&M, although this last fall our 2000 model 1075 has been a real peach....or was that a lemon.(should give her a little slack as bad as we abuse it though) Track systems on either of these??

Can the Kinze be ordered as just the box in order to put some aftermarket tracks on? What kind would you recommend. Someone below mentioned $90k for a new Kinze on tracks....makes J&M's price look darn....no, damn good. Just how many years will a Kinze be good for? Would move approx. 400k every year and spend quite a little time in road gear.

that was 1800 bushels, and I think over 1000 bu./minute. They had one demo'ing at husker harvest days last year, and I think again this one. It is the mother of all grain carts. Three huge axles with suspension and steering.

Where is this all going to end up? I don't even have one..

Gresham, Nebraska
Cash price in September '06
Kinze 1050, 24" tracks, scale = $62,000
Balzer 1250, tandem, scale = $59,000
They both unload in the 1000 bu/min range (brochure info).
A guy who has a Balzer said that after you shut the gate to the auger there is still 7,000 pounds of grain that comes out before the augers are empty. You don't want a rookie running one of these!

Kinze is only brand I have experience with so I cannot compare, only tell you our history. With the old 1040 we would trade annually because the cart would not make it another year. We have gone to the 1050 now and it has a little over 4 million bu through it, there is still paint on the vertical auger and have not had one single breakdown to date. We have it on a 4 wheel drive and more often than not it is also in road gear, loaded, crossing sprinkler tracks, hitting badger holes, whatever else. Pretty durable machine to do this at 20 mph with big auger folded out and still have not had a breakdown. I did reinforce auger some when new but other than that, nothing. Other poster is correct, you don't want a rookie in it unless you have a grain vac on standby. It unloads fast, and it don't take long to put 50 bu at a time on the ground. Neighbor has a Balzer, I don't believe they have had any trouble with it either.

Slicker than a Yes album.
yes, that was me that said it was about 90k. I believe that was list price, cash I'm not sure about because we had a trade on it. If I can get this f'in photo posting to work, I'll get a picture on here. A scale is a must, although we had to have Kinze come up with a new calibration number for the scale. We never inquired about getting a box only, we had to buy a track system nonetheless. I've seen most are about 20-30 grand for the undercarriage. About half the number of grease zerks than a row crop. ( And easier to get to!)

Agree with you about EZTrail. Was looking at a 1800 Series Killbros (900bu) but the 860bu EZ beat it on price by something like $7,500.

Savage,

if you don't mind, where was that Kinze priced at? Seems that most of them I've seen advertised having the row-crop duals were listed as $60k new.

Chebanse, IL.....

We get along fine w/our Avalanche. We just finished our 3rd full season w/it, I think. We haven't even replaced the original shear bolt yet. You can load a little over 60,000# on it. Takes just a little over a minute to load a 1000 bus semi w/dry (16-18%) corn. Of course it takes longer w/wetter corn. You can load slow w/the gate control also. We really like the swivel auger-that's one of the items that swayed us to Brent over the Balzer when we were shopping. I believe the newest models also have a hydraulic spout deflector. Absolutely no maintenance problems yet. It has a chain "oiler" for bottom drive chains.

We're happy.
