NE Nebraska
There have been a lot of pollination issues in my area with Pioneer. Heard it's a certain genetic family (1197 and 1311 are part of it) and that there was too high heat a certain week earlier this summer during peak pollination. Haven't heard yet, but doesn't sound like they'll be covering anything. Maybe give higher discounts next year for guys who planted it?

"Here" in eastern Nebraska pioneer 1690, 2089, 1751 look great. 1197 had hail twice in late May and was adjusted at 180 BPA. Here's a picture of 1751. All four of these ears were in a row. Have seen some tip back with it in the same field.

I have P,Agrigold, and NK. 5 P and one of eachother brand. Only hybrid that had pollination issues was 1197. Supposed be big yielder but if can't take heat what good is it. Heard this is the last year of 0210 and phasing out 1319 as well. Those two have never let me down.

No problems with my Pioneer. Planted 1105, 1271, 1197 and 1498. It has had everything thrown at it this year.

every year is different. a few year ago was the last test plot I did with pioneer in it. pioneer won the test plot by over 10 bushels. the pioneer in the field next to the test plot beat the test plot by 30 bushels. I didn't put that hybrid in the test plot because it was the first year with it and had no clue what it would do.

But you cant tell me that the best seed from any other company would do better then the 3rd or 4th place from any other company. so i plant the best from 4 companys in the last test plots this year to see how that works out.

I have some 2089 planted. A corn I like a lot. It looks awful. Some parts of the field have zero pollination. We are going to start chopping it soon and I know the yield and starch levels are not going to be good

I believe my dealer told he he is not super find of 2089. Says it can't handle stress. I have been planting it for 4 years and have been very happy with it until now.

With that said others have told me pollination has been a problem across the board. Looking at some of my other corn and my friends corn today I say the 2089 did a lot worse then others.

It was 100 degrees and bone dry when it pollinated.

I like bashing pioneer as much as the next guy. But you have to keep something in mind with Pioneer. With a company that has that much market share and therefore that much exposure your going to have some fails that's just the way it is. Just like in most companies you have some winners and losers.

My 1197 has a bunch of stalks scattered throughout the field that have no ear or an aborted little nubbin. Not sure what could have caused it to happen.

No issues here with 1197 other than a bad growing season which can be seen in any hybrid in our area. 0506 is going down already via poor stalk quality and 12' tall plants. I Don't like reaching above my head to pick ears, I'm 6'1. Augusta corn was crippled with gls but it should black layer by the end of the week anyway. Edit to add. Pics are 1197 planted 4/28

My only # is PO 157. We have had a very difficult year. Just enough rain to keep things alive. It look pretty good. A little tipback and small ears but it's ok for what we had. (I'm not whining!)

Well if a farmer can't relay problems they have with a product others will be apt to make similar mistakes. Pioneer had more pollination issues than other companies this year. Agriliant had some green snap problems.

You couldn't give me 1271, was flat on ground last fall and was that way every where here. We had 20-30 bu on ground.

Quite a bit of tip back in the plots i have it in. Some problems with green snap.
Why should the company cover it? It's just the way some corn varieties are. You chose the hybrids and the company to buy from.

Here's some 1257 ears..... Pretty good. Have some 1197 planted in another field, and I saw some pollination problems, but that could have also been caused by hail. Also have 1498 in that field, and it seems better than 1197.

IMO the reason they should cover it is $250-300 a bag seed it should be covered. You pay more for chems vs generic and they cover it. So why not?

If seed was priced where it SHOULD be with $3 corn, wouldn't be as much of an issue either. Their is so much fat in seed for companies its not even funny.

The entire reason behind this site is to discuss issues. Spread knowledge on issues and discuss them. Don't like it leave the site. It's truth. We planted it and are having issues this year in our 0801 with pollination and green snap in 1197. Not bashing. Truth.

Had some 2089 planted, 192 units of N, 300# of dry, 26K pop (top side for our area) and it was made 85 bushels.  Called P rep and he said, 'hopefully the light land makes more'.

1498 is the worst corn pioneer has produced. They should scrap it.
