Subject: Geo Tracker front tow bar mount pics

If anybody else has been looking for an easy way to mount a tow bar on the front of a Tracker here is how I did mine this week. It took me a while to figure out a good way to mount one (not much frame to mount to) without loosing the stock front bumper and the commercial built mounts are way too expensive. I built a 2" front receiver mount using 2" square tubing welded to the flat plates on the front of the frame rails, there is just barely enough room to weld the 2" tubing on so they clear the bumper supports but it did work and it should be plenty strong. I did have to cut a notch in the bottom of the bumper to clear the receiver tube but it was minor. I wasn't sure how a single tube would work for the tow bar but I pulled it around some last night behind a tractor and I think it will be more than strong enough although there is a little more side to side play than I would like. This winter I may rebuild it with a wider hinge point to eliminate the side to side play.

All Cliff needs to do now is get some fluorescent pink paint for the tow bar on his baby! ;-)

BTW, I spy the non-identical triplet in the background of Cliff's 2nd pic.

Does the tracker follow the header trailer without swerving? I have a Bronco II that I thought of towing behind my combine but didn't know if it would work. Do you lock the steering wheel by taking the key out of the ignition? My bronco already has a front reciever that I made for a winch.

The steering on the Tracker doesn't lock, for the past two years we used a Samuria that didn't lock and never had any problems.  With the hitch on the back of the head cart and grain cart I can follow the combine to the field with the head and as soon as we have it hooked up and running I can run back for the grain cart by myself and as long as it's not too far of a drive I can be back to the field before the combine needs to dump.

Now that is what I would like to do to a tracker if I would just buy one. Did it take much modification to get the end result.

I don't think I like the single point business very much. I'll about bet on it breaking sooner or later.

With that much tire under it in anything less than quick sand like conditions it won't sink in enough to need much power.

I think I am going to beef up the reciever hitch part a little bit and rebuild the tow bar.  I think I am going to make a T out of solid 2" stock that will slide into the reciever and then build a Y shaped hitch that will pivot off the T.  I think the reciever hitch part of it should be more than strong enough but I am going to add some safety chains as soon as I get time to just in case something should happen.

There was not any bolt ons!

All made to fit and trial and error.  It does work really well except got a litte tire rub on the front roll bar mount when cranked hard left.
