Blue Earth, MN
Interested in what measures you take and how you get a good seed bed when planting into the old corn row. Do you use a single fertilizer coulter running right down the old corn row?

Any information is appreciated.

Thanks.

Eastern VA. No such thing as too many Magnums.
I forgot who posted these pictures, but I was impressed and saved them.

I put my dry fert. right down the middle of the ridge in the fall with Auscherman coulters. The coulters loosen and knock down the stalks somewhat. I would prefer to angle the coulters and run them on the side of the ridges, but my current toolbar doesn't have enough room on the bar to do this.

I plant in the spring right down the old row with a 955 planter equipped with the old fashioned ridge-cleaners. I end up with a very nice consistant seedbed. Sometimes I will run a rotary hoe ahead of planting to help dry the ridges and tear up the stalks a little more. It never made sense to me to plant between the rows.

We just have a incorporator rig that has 2 liliston gangs at opposite angles, and 2 baskets per row and run that in front of the planter and planter is equiped with row cleaners.

We run a besler stalk chopper in it flips the rootballs up and sizes the stalks and we run row cleaners on our planter.

I like the concept of those root pullers. What would a 12 row list for?

SE IL and SW IN
We have found that anything to bust the old crown in the fall will soften it up by spring and be ready to plant into.

When you guys ridge till do you rebuild the ridges every year? If so do you ridge it while the crop is growing or after you get rid of the roots? Just curious. I have field that may work better with ridges cause of wetness.

We have an old international rolling stalk chopper we use before planting then use a hawkins hiller when the corn gets knee high or so.

We rebuild our ridges after the crop is off. Right behind the shredder.

I have a strip till bar and was thinking it might work to prepare the top of the ridge, but I don't have any thing to rebuild the ridges.
