Southeast Colorado
Anyone have lifts in the shop for oil change and service work on pickups and cars? Thinking 12-14k capacity. What brand do you like?

Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning.

I have a 12K two post in my shop. Bought it from Greg Smith Equipment. It is rated as 12K if floor plate configured. The same hoist is rated at 15K if it configured as a clear floor model. I didn't have headroom clearance so I installed a top brace that's hidden above the ceiling in my shop.

hoist
I expect it is now at least a 15K hoist. Heavy hoists are really made for higher clearance vehicles and lifting a car takes some positioning to get clearance for the lift arms.
SHO
The hoist came with truck adapters and works well for a pickup.
Dodge
It works well without the adapters for an SUV type vehicle.
When I built this shop, the floor was considered pretty stout for the day but was never really intended for something like a lift. Choosing a lift with large footprint baseplates removed a lot of uncertainty about whether the hoist would punch through the floor. I've seen pictures of that and it isn't pretty

I have a Team 9000 lb. two post. Very handy and useful. I wish I had a different height adapter. Mine has a threaded post that you screw up or down. There is a style that has a height adjustment that flips up or down which is much handier.

Mid Michigan
Dad has a Challenger brand hoist he got from the Ford dealer. It looks exactly like Ed's only it's red instead of blue. He uses it all the time and seems to be very happy with it. Runs very smooth and flawless. I actually never go over and use it because I'm basically afraid of hoists. Never feel comfortable being under a car or truck that's 6 feet above my head. He has a beautiful hoist in a heated garage that I could use just about anytime and I usually lay on concrete outside in the winter under the car or truck!

I work under semis 6 feet in the air. You get used to it pretty quickly, and it sure beats rolling around on the floor all day long.
