North East Wimmera district of Victoria. | I presume you guys have manufacturers of poly water tanks.
One I have is 3.2 mtr Diameter, and 2.3 mtr high. That makes it about 18,500 lt., or something over 4,000 Imp gallons.
It has been sitting at ground level, on a sand base, fed from a higher tank supplied by pressure from the Wimmera mallee pipeline. [This replaced our open channel water supply system in 2009]. The tank was set up when we got the piped water - so rouughly 10 years old.
It has a 3 inch outlet, and to that I attached a pump to fill my crop spray unit.
In June we were going away for 6 weeks, so turned the metered supply tap off, just to be certain no 'óveruse' [leaks] would occur.
When we came home, this poly tank was empty, and so was the high supply tank.
On lifting one side off the ground, I found a very wet, sunken area under one side of the tank. I could see where a fine jet of water had "drilled"a hole into the sand. Would have been 7 ft. Depth of water initially squirting out the little hole.
Two problems -
How do I find what must be only a pin prick sized hole in the poly?
How do I fix it?
Think if I can reliably locate it I could drill it out to say 1/4 inch, then glue some form of plug in.
The three photos are -
A view of the whole tank - obviously empty, and lying on its side!
A closer view of the bottom of the tank.
A close up of where the leak "must"be.
In situ and full of water, the "hump" molding may have been about 3 inches pressed down into the sand base.
