nice to watch in a hot and clear summer night. The totality is just ending right now. The smaller thingy under the partially eclipsed moon is Mars. Unlike solar eclipses, the lunar variety can be seen from the entire night side of the earth, provided there are no clouds. This one was the longest total eclipse of the century because the moon is far from earth right now. Mars in contrast is relatively close, so altogether an unusual constellation. The pic is from my window with our church in the foreground. There will be much better pics on the web but this is what I did, with an inexpensive compact camera.
