Subject: Sheep lambed twice?

Middlesex County, Ontario
We run pregnant ewes together in a single pen until they lamb. Once a ewe lambs we build put up 5' gates to make a 5'x5' pot. The ewe and lambs then get placed into a pot. The 5' gates are 2'6" tall. Its possible for a sheep to jump the pot gate and it happens.

We had a ewe that lambed early before everyone else. The ewe was quite large and gave birth to only one runty lamb with bald patches. Did not find an afterbirth. The lamb was healthy and mom and lamb were placed into a pot.

Lambing season goes on and many other ewes lamb. Each one gets placed into a pot.

Three weeks after this initial lamb there is an additional set of twins in the pot with an afterbirth. The ewe took to them and is nursing all three lambs.

Its possible that a ewe jumped into the pot, gave birth, cleaned out, and then jumped back out.

Could it be that the early lamb was a premature triplet?
Could it be that the ewe cycled after being bred and was bred twice?
What about colostrum?
