Good Sunday Morning. The last weigh in for November. Harvest is done, or winding down for most of you. I hope you took the time on Thanksgiving to be with family and be thankful for something. It can be very hard with the price of our hard work not bringing much. Is anything good right now, doesn't seem like it. But if we have our health, even if it isn't the best, there is always someone else that has it much worse. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves of that.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, how did you do with managing your plate? Did you heap it up and ladle copious amounts of gravy over everything including the jello? Or did you take a little bit of everything and eat slowly and enjoy your meal and the people around you? We had a very small Thanksgiving table as it was just my mom, son and Dave and I. But it did give us a great chance to visit, and for me to be with my mom a little more before we head out to AZ. I help my mom a lot with taking her places and she doesn't like when I go to AZ, but she says she doesn't want to cause a divorce either. I have two brothers in town that will take over. Anyway, a nice small Thanksgiving and that helps by not having so many different side dishes that help pile on the pounds.

How did you do this week, did the scale explode? Was pleasantly surprised at our scale. Dave lost .8 and I lost one pound. That was even with having pie and of course my mom left a few extra pieces at our place.

I don't expect many replies today, or the rest of the year. It is a hard time to try and lose weight.

Have a good week.

Both boys made it home for turkey at my parents. Oldest had to return home for work. Big project due this week. Cleaning up field edges and shop work.
It's important for your brothers to step up. My FIL lived with us 15+ years. It was hard to bite my tongue when alone time would fail because family wouldn't help out. Couldn't was acceptable. Farmers well understand that. Waiting for the day when I feel like I can take 3 weeks to head for the south west. Never been there. Enjoy the travel.

Got my self back down to 195. The "training" is holding. I started on the elliptical this week in earnest. Already way better this year, compared to before I hurt my back last January. Noticed as I treated myself to Apple pie for breakfast, it was my 5th serving. Still more than 1/3 left. Would have eaten all in 3 settings before.

Hi Don, good going on getting back down to 195. Now apple pie for breakfast sounds darn good. I have such a sweet tooth. Also good for you getting on that elliptical more often. So good for you.

My mom doesn't live with me, so I am not dealing with that like you dealt with your FIL. My mom is use to me taking her for her weekly hair do, and grocery shopping and errands and then there is the occasional doctor's appointment and fun trips shopping to Madison. One of my brothers takes mom to church and out to eat weekly and that is it. The other brother helps with her finances and he takes over the weekly errands but not shopping trips to Madison. So they do help, I think she just misses having a daughter there. My sister does come about once a month or so. She lives a couple hours away and anther brother will take her for Christmas, I hope, that also lives a couple hours away. We make it work and I try to call often. Wow, over 15 years with your FIL under your roof, you are a saint. I know with my MIL when she comes back from TX there will have to be something done. She has gone downhill the last couple years. Time will tell. Have a good week.

He was a good man. At first it was in a mobile home with 2 little ones. He never said boo. Even when those little spousal bumps occurred. He tended to many of his own needs for a long time. A favorite high lite was his phone calls with childhood and war friends. We learned things he never shared before with his family.  Some moving,. Others down right funny. I grew up with a grandmother in the house for extended times.

We finished up my crops yesterday, still have some to do fo the hired hand. This is the first year I can remember not being done by thanksgiving. There are a lot of beans to go around here but have had over 7 inches of rain in the last 20 days. Seem like we can’t go 3 days without rain. Beans were down to 13% yesterday with a couple more nice days so I can get Paul’s beans done Monday.
It has been a real struggle with trying not to gain weight with Mary trying to get me to gain and doing crops. To much eating peanuts at the mill. Got up to 200 but the last couple of weeks have got it going the right way and weighed in at 198.6 last night. One thing I kept doing was weighting in every week because if you spot doing that it is a loosing battle. I started a new exercise program 6 weeks ago. Made a backpack and put a ten pound potato sack in and carried that around all day. I keep putting in bigger sacks and I am up to a 100 pound sack now. We put dry corn in the 70 foot silo and had to climb that a couple times and it about killed me off with that 100 pound sack on. When I was young I used to be able to run up the 100 footer in 45 seconds but can hardly make it up the 70 footer without stopping now. I will be 65 in March, sure sucks getting old. I will keep up with my exercise program and think Monday I will put a potato in the sack.

Oilfarmers post above. Was thinking about this the other day is it better to eat the whole pie in a couple days and get it over and get back to your diet or eat one piece a day and stretch it out over a week

Then there is just another pie.  Found I can have a "bad eating" day once a week and hold. December goal is to stay below 195. Sounds weird. Eating to stop gaining has led to losses here and there.

I was getting ready to ask when the potato would get put in before I finished reading.

You had me going there for awhile David, I thought you were nuts, and now you just confirmed my thoughts. Yes, aging will slow you down and we have to remember that. Dangerous if you don't. Have a good week.

Kingdom of Callaway - Fulton, Mo 65251

I did real well this week.....considering what I ate. 252.0 this morning.  Those hot and cold pieces of pie are killers.

We started out Thanksgiving day with a new tradition of participating in a local 5k run.  I walked, the wife and oldest daughter ran.  The family met at Grandma's for thanksgiving day. Picture attached. My wife makes the turkey with a Benny sauce marinade. Wow it was good.

On Friday we drove to St. Louis to meet up with some friends from college.  We have kept up with them on the phone, letters, facebook, etc, but only see them about once a year.  Our kids are not usually included on those visits, which was a mistake.  One of our friends husband recently died, and at the funeral, the widow remarked how sad it is we only see each other at weddings and funerals.  So we have decided to attempt to get together once a month.  Friday was a little weird forcing all the kids to be together.  At about 9:00, one of them wanted ice cream, and the whole room said: "Ted Drews!"  We all piled in two vans and headed to the historic custard stand in south city St. Louis.  That really broke the ice with the kids.  It was 60 degrees out, and we had to wait in line for an hour, but that just added to the fun.

Sorry for the long post, but I'm trying to justify the ice cream when on a diet .......

Hi David, thanks for the pictures, nice to see them. Good for all of you that did the 5k on Thanksgiving day. Walk or run, it is all good.
That is good that you are making the attempt to get together with your friend once a month after her husband died. Really important now as she will need all of her friends. That must be some great ice cream at that place to have to stand in line for an hour. Never heard of it, must not be a franchise. Have you ever been to a Culvers, wondering if it compares. Sounds like you had a wonderful holiday. Not back to reality until Christmas hits. Have a good week.

Good morning Deb, we are rapping up tillage this coming week, then start cleaning up fence lines until weather shuts us down. Yes it's hard to put the hard work into the farm with the margins that we are working with. My Mothers father lived to 87, I had a lot of conversations with Grampa about how him and Gramma farmed raising Mom and her 4 sibling thru the Great Depression. He told me several times "it's not how much money you make, it's how much money you spend"

Had Thanksgiving dinner at Mary's folks, both are in good health, MIL really puts on a tasty feast, makes homemade gravy just like my Mother use to, if nobody would have been looking I would have put homemade gravy on the pie.

I gained 1 lb this week, as bad as I cheated, I will call that cheap. I will get back to good eating this week.

Everyone have a good week.

Dan

Hi Dan, yes, a pound over the holidays isn't bad at all. Just get back to business and you will be fine. Those talks with your grandpa are priceless. This weather in WI has been pretty good, hoping it will hold out at least until we get out of here. Have a good week.

Finally back after a few weekends on the road. We have been doing some renovations at our cottage so that has kept us busy and away on the weekends. Started up my hitting the gym 3 days a week routine and it sure helps. Down to 221 today. I really do find the gym makes me think every time I grab something to eat. My biggest problem is the mindless snacking and the gym makes me pause and think how hard I have to work to get rid of the needless calories. Today is Christmas light hanging day so that will be some good exercise!! Hope all our American friends have enjoyed a good Thanksgiving with family and friends. See you next week!!

Good for you Gregg. Losing over Thanksgiving is something to be proud of. I see our local gym looks very busy all the time. It must be a good one. At least some people are motivated. Have a good week.

229, lowest in almost a year. I missed both sides of the family Thanksgiving. Hope this never happens again. Big changes for us next year, renting a farm from a neighbor who is retiring do to his health. So giving up a bunch of ground that some of is 25 miles away. I will farm more than I ever have next year, but will be much closer. No fun sitting in a combine, while could be sitting around watching football and having a beer or 2. So after last weeks wedding where I watched what I ate and no big dinners this week, hope to keep on this track.

Good for you Stephan, 3 pounds is fantastic. 18 pounds lost so far and you are doing great. Sorry you missed out on two Thanksgivings, but a guy has to do what a guy has to do sometimes. Sounds like some exciting times for next year. Good luck on that and have a good week.

Bloomington and Putnam IL
Flu big hit us before Thanksgiving so no big meals and also were too sick to run our annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot. Missed the race more than the big meal. We still felt puny but ran a 5K hilly and windy 5K on Saturday and we went 6th, 15th and 157 out of 327. Also felt good enough to mow and mulch our elderly neighbors yard at the lake on the way home. 148 this morning. Doing a 5 mile trail run through numerous creeks in a couple weeks which should be fun???

So sorry that you all had the flu bug for Thanksgiving. Not very nice at all. A true runner you are that you missed the 5k more then the food. Sounds like you have that behind you now and will go from there. That race through the creeks sounds interesting. What kind of shoes do you plan on wearing. Older ones I hope. Don't want to wreck some good ones. Have a good week.

West Texas

Nope, not a good report. Still up from where I was.
Got our first hard freeze this past Monday morning so cotton harvest had to stop for a couple of days. The first few days after a freeze the bark on the cotton stalks rubs off real easy and stains/contaminates the cotton. But we're back at it now. With a little luck we'll finish by Christmas.
Katy and Andrew both had birthdays this week (Monday) and then Friday was our 31st anniversary.
Andrew had to be on call Thursday and couldn't leave so we stayed home. Was supposed to have gone to Katy's sister's at Levelland ( 90 miles from here) but since Andrew couldn't leave we stayed home too. He didn't find that out until noon Wednesday so it was too late to thaw out a turkey. So I smoked a small brisket on Thursday for Thanksgiving. Katy fixed a potato bake dish and green bean casserole. So we ate good either way. Was going to fry a turkey today and have her Dad come over but Katy had been feeling kind of poorly for the last 2 days so we cancelled that. Deer season was this week too here in our county but we never got a chance to go hunt and we haven't seen any deer on the place we hunt.
Ok, bored you enough. Take care.
