Subject: Calf tagging post from below

West Central Indiana
This works pretty good for calves that I can't tag right at birth. Caught one napping in there today, slide the gate across, safe from Momma. 100% of our calves get tagged and Inforce 3 in the nose as babies. Bulls get blue tags, heifers get pink tags. 100% of our calves go through the chute before turn out all get vaccinated, the bulls get knife cut, and the tag colors are double checked. On shipping day we co mingle around 400 calves from 6 farms. Steers are sold as feeders and heifers are sold for replacements this tagging system makes shipping day 1000X easier. I don't really care how you do yours or if you think my way is wrong.

Edit to add: With the calves tagged up I can tell from a half a mile away with binoculars if a calf is one I have seen before or a new one.
