Subject: older steigers, what to look for

going to look at a couple older series three steigers, bearcats and panthers. What do I want to look for specifically on these tractors? What is the T handle by your right knee for? I'm not real familiar with these tractors but looked at a few last week and they all had that lever. So far all that I'm looking at have the 855. One bearcat I've looked at has a newer turbo charged motor. Will the clutch in the bearcat handle the extra power? I drove a couple last week and when in a higher gear letting out the clutch they seemed to rock "upward" in the center where they pivot. My helper watched it and claimed it was sliding upward on the pivot pins. Is this a normal thing or are they wore somewhere? Anything I should know to look at would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!
