Subject: How do you get rid of fruit flies

Noticed a few of them around lately. I thought it is usually the potatoes that I keep in the pantry. I figured they had to be old seeing I hadn't shopped for much more then milk since I had my knee replacement. Checked them and the onions out and nothing rotting and didn't see any bugs in there. Dave had brought home a couple tomatoes and a watermelon from the neighbor and they weren't hovering around them either. Finally there were more and more. So Dave cut up the melon and threw away the tomatoes as he had enough of them. I threw out the potatoes and onions. I checked under the garbage and recycling trash bins to see if someone missed the bins when throwing something away. Small space by the stove, can't see anything there. There was a bulb of garlic that my son bought and had on the counter and I saw a few bugs around there, so threw that out too. What am I missing? Dave and I shower daily, so don't think it is us.
