Subject: Maybe wrong forum but. Cattle grazing cover crop behind corn...

SC KS
So I have a chance to plant a 50/50 blend of 100#/ac barley n wheat behind 100+ bpa corn. This is a dryland sandy soils field. Good wind protection from north and west. If I did this to bring in a feedlots cows will grazing be good? Soil moisture is good atm. Obviously a graze out situation. The mix will give all the protein a 500# calf needs. Husks n leafs will slow down consumption aND digestion. I'd still feed a bale of straw or rough hay for free choice too. My feeds question is "should I feed 2-5# of rolled corn + .25# of high mag mineral, (grain ration is $.4-$.5/hd/day)"? What will/should they gain if stocked at a 500# animal/1.5 ac? Should I seed treat a graze out cc?

Barley hasn't been raised here commercially for decades. My gpa says it's good crop for the area. Sare.Com says it has more fall growth, drought and salinity tolerance over other small grains.

I know this is more livestock, but not as much traffic in that forum and need help on cover crop aspects.

Thanks
