What is a secure way to keep track of all of your passwords?

Subject: What is a secure way to keep track of all of your passwords?



1. A guy could write them down on a piece of paper. That's likely clumsy and inconvenient. If someone finds that piece of paper, they have everything.

2. A guy could put them in a document (say a text file or a Microsoft Word document) on your computer and name it password.txt.

3. A guy could do the same as number 2 except name it as something not so obvious

4. I would imagine there is software out there that helps manage that information but how do you know you can trust the software developer?

I have lots of different usernames and passwords and most of the passwords are quite difficult to remember so I don't even try. Because of that it's getting to the point where it's not very convenient keeping track of it all. What do you guys do?
