Subject: Silage Question

Wellington, MO
Still waiting on my custom chopper to make it to me. Could have chopped some 4 weeks ago but thought it was too green. Now between rain, his chopper biting the dust and other customers he has to finish it is getting really dry. (Kinda sounds like this spring when I said it was too early to plant beans right after corn went in and then it rained for 4 weeks.)

So my question is what do you guys to get it to pack and seal? It is going in a pit silo. I have heard some talk about seeding wheat or rye on top. Does that help? What other tricks are out there?

Thanks in advance, Craig
