Subject: How to get brass fittings into HDPE pipe

Central Nebraska

I had a plumber order me the parts I need for an underground project I'm going to tackle around my yard.  I've got 600' of 2" HDPE plastic pipe, 600" of 1.25" pipe and eight frost proof hydrants to install.  I suspect the most difficult part of the project will be getting the barbed ends into the pipe without destroying the pipe or the brass threads.  What are the best ways?  Do I heat up the pipe with a torch?  Put soap on the stuff and hammer it in?   Both?  Something else?  Anybody want to come help?
