Illinois | Last fall I was finishing corn and the oil pressure gauge was registering low, not in the red and no alarm but too low for me to feel good about it. Finished harvesting, and would investigate later. Now is later and I put a mechanical gauge on hoping that the combine gauge was bad. Cold oil, full throttle showed 75psi. Let combine run for awhile, then full throttle, hot oil showed 35psi. This does not seem good to me.
Had an oil sample taken and that said the oil is fine and to resample at a regular interval. So I dont know if the oil pump is going bad or if bearings are on their way out. Also it appears the seal from the engine to the main engine gearcase is leaking. I dont believe that is capable of losing that much engine oil pressure but dont know.
Cummins 8.3L engine, any experts out there that can tell me what is going on before I take the engine apart to find out it was something simple and cheap?
