SW Indiana | Back in January or February Rural King run an add about Round-Up beans for $25/bag well I bought 30 bags on their 12% off sale making them $22/bag, they were no-tilled on rolling ground on June 1st into 2 separate fields that lye next to each other. Rural King beans are in a 24.5 acre field and Stine are in a 23 acre field, will be interesting to see what happens through the summer and harvest. Biggest difference I noticed on the seed was that the Rural King beans were cleaner, not that the Stines had any weed seed but there was more chaff in them and could definitely see that around the vac fan motor when planting them. Also as you can see on the tag Rural King beans were 94% germ vs 85% on the Stine.
Both were planted in 30" rows @ 152,000. This ground was fall sprayed last year with 2 oz of Canopy EX which has always worked very well for me and has been a little disappointing this year as the marestail is breaking through, however with a very wet 1st half of April and 3 weeks the first part of May it did delay the bean planting which probably has hurt the weed control some. These were sprayed with roundup and 1st rate about 14 days after they came up.
