whitesville new york
Fella I know had a pasture walk this week. He has a similar size dairy and also a member of our co-op board. Good guy.

We were walking around looking at his paddocks. Looked like he was doing a good job but the paddock he had clipped with his discbine (a little short in my opinion) did not seem to have the tonage that the paddock that he didn't get clipped. His reason was he thinks his cows like a nice even clipped paddock to come to. We've been dry as well. I'm guessing the extra height of the grass helped conserve moisture and and help capture more moisture as well. Nothing against the guys management being he is following his plan trying to meet his Goals

I like to clip once a year (high with my brush hog) to keep the woody stuff in check. But I'm going to put it on hold a while hoping for rain and my pasture seems to be in good shape.
