Dry and Liquid rate controller-can they interchange?

I'm getting a liquid rate controller set up on my planter so I can VRT an iron product for soybeans.
Can I use that same rate controller to VRT on my strip till machine with dry fertilizer??
John Deere components
(2630 and rate controller
)
Or is there a better/less expensive option for the rate control on the strip till machine?? JD wants another $1800 for a dry rate controller.
