Subject: X-rays, Ultrasounds and MRI's

North East Wimmera district of Victoria.

Hope all have had a Blessed Easter - or are having - Easter Saturday here!

My wife has problems with joints, knees particularly.

Discussion this morning re more investigation of painful knees, which have already had torn meniscus trimmed and other 'rubbish' cleaned up.

She is concerned about the long term effects of too many X-rays, and is thus a little reluctant to have yet another X-ray of her knee.

Here is what I understand -

X-rays can have long term effects because of the radiation.

MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging -  I believe do not use radiation, therefore are not "cumulative" like X-rays.

Ultrasounds are used on pregnant mothers - surely they could do no harm , or there would be concern re the unborn baby!

Thanks for any opinions and better knowledge.

I had a short term memory loss last July - 2 - 3 hours! I had an MRI of my brain, and have hundreds of 'slices' through my head in different directions. Fascinating to look through on the computer. By the way -  no long term problems with memory, and no sign as to why the temporary loss occurred.
