We've had the local steel supplier bend and form various pieces of steel for us in their metal break. I'm not sure if I'm describing this properly but what I need is a modified channel iron piece of steel with a 5 inch base and equal 2 1/2 inch arms and 4 feet in length. In other words, it's kind of like a regular piece of channel iron but with rounded corners, not the sharps edges of a channel iron. So, I was gonna have the guys take a 10 inch x 4 foot piece of flat and bend it to my dimensions. The supplier tells me they are 2 or 3 weeks out on their metal break.
I got to thinking that I could take a 1/4 inch x 5 inch x 5 inch x 4 foot piece of square tubular and have a plasma cutter guy cut it in half for me lengthwise and I'd have it tomorrow or the next day. It would have the rounded radius corners that I want. Certainly it would be as strong and rigid as a piece shaped in a break, wouldn't it? Please advise. | |
