Neighbor woke up this morning to find her machine shed on fire. She suspects a block heater on a timer was the culprit. She lost an older Zetor loader tractor as well as a year old Zetor with loader, along with a few other things, haven't been over there but guessing balers, etc. She told me it's a total loss, some of it insured. She was doing our chores for us while we were gone. Called her at 8 AM to tell her we were coming home this afternoon and found out they had just gotten the fire out. I had a tractor catch fire 3 years ago because of a block heater. Luckily I was outside and saw it before it spread to anything else in the quonset. I'm guessing the cords on these heaters get worn from the bouncing when the tractor is in use and eventually shorts out. Happens way too often, that's for sure. |
