Subject: GIPSA and Tyson Foods Louisa County

Eastern Iowa
The local procurement man for Tyson was around today with a check for us. It seems the plant in Columbus Junction, IA where we sell our hogs had failed to properly drop heads for an extended period of time according to USDA and the result was a loss in the number of pounds of pork on the rail for us customers who sold them the hogs on carcass weight. The plant we use, and the one in Storm Lake, IA were subject to this. I accepted the check but was wondering if anyone else here had any thoughts about it. Clearly they are trying to get out in front of a USDA fine.
