north east IN
The corn by the ruler is a short corn non flex ear that was planted at 36000 pop (needs more) ear is 20 to 22 around 27 long, kernels are 1/2 long and went 185 BPA
Ear on the right is a flex ear and is what we are chopping is very tall planted at 36000 (needs less) 35 ton to the acre 200 BPA
When we switched from the tall chopping corn to the short picking corn we did not clean out the planter so when the insurance adjuster was there the pure picking corn went 185 but one sample had 7 of the center ears that was the tall corn in the sample and it boosted the yield to 240. We think the tall flex ear that was 12 to 18 inches taller got more sunlight so put on a big flex ear and did not know it had competition and did not hurt the shorter corn.
So next year I want to plant a short determinant corn then ad in a very tall flex corn maybe 5% 10% 20% and see if it works again. The only problem is the corn looks like ---- with all those tall plants sticking up and the neighbors will be talking
