Subject: Corn maturity

I'm curious how much yield potential or percentage in corn is determined from early dent stage to full maturity / black layer.

Is it true that the plant is still adding kernel weight at early dent? Looking at the milk line would you say that anything still under the line is still accumulating carbohydrates / dry matter?

I tried to search google but I'm not asking the right question to find the answer.
