Manchester, OK | I was driving past one of my milo fields yesterday and could visibly see the honey dew from the aphids on the leaves from the road. My milo is all double crop and ranges from 70% headed to head just forming in the boot. The aphids are the worst in the headed milo but i don't see where there is significantly more honey dew where there are more aphids. Strange but just an observation. The aphids appear to be in all the leaves top-to-bottom....ranging from a handful per leaf to hundreds per leaf.
My question is around the treatment. Pull the trigger now or wait until fully headed? Also given that this milo will require a freeze before harvesting, will the freeze and dry down of the plant help the honey dew dissipate before it goes thru my combine?
Lastly, aerial or ground application? Naturally I have concerns with spray volume/coverage from a plane...
