Subject: Explain this Yukon rafting show

I guess I am too dense to figure this all out. I realize its TV. I relize it may be made for TV. But in a state of nearly solid trees,,,why would you go a LONG ways upstream on a wild river and assemble and BUILD a raft of river logs soaking in water

Then risk life and limb and a freeze up of the river due to approaching winter . Then have to haul all that out of a river up the bank and sell.

Whats wrong with the dead , fallen ,and available trees where you are? Maybe those that are mature in the Forrest so small trees can grow better,,,,harvest as such???

When I cut wood I didnt do it the hardest way possible,,,can someone explain why they do??

Think its showing on national geographic right now
