Subject: rye harvest analysis

Clark SD

Been able to get some rye combined the last couple of day's. Had a young farmer from the area come in to do the rye harvest.
In one field which was volunteer rye from last years rye crop the yield was 30 bu./a.
In the other field which was not completely harvested, (had to pull out, moisture was running at 15.5%.) i came up with about 50 bu/a. This field was corn last year that was chopped for silage, then planted to rye for a cover crop. We intended to plant soybeans in this field this year, but after some of our other rye fields winter killed we decieded to leave it go and harvest it for grain.
Both fields had the same amount of urea and ams applied this spring on the same day. The two fields are seperated by a fence line and for the most part have simular soil types.
