Subject: Mowing second crop hay

Driftless SW Wisconsin

Mowed 2nd crop alfalfa, grass/alfalfa and oats hay today. Good yielding, the alfalfa was about 10% blooming. A lot of passes around the field with the moco but the sweet smell of fresh cut hay from an open station tractor makes it worth the effort!  Also a picture of a first calf heifer and her 8 day old calf. One of the last to calve (2 cycles) but a nice, healthy, alert calf on her own.

Finally had some sun and lower humidity today. Smoke from Canada is predicted to return tomorrow.  I am going to ted this out tomorrow morning then try to get it rolled up as dry hay and in the shed in the background.

First crop of this alfalfa was mowed on 6/1 so this is 37 days later to 2nd crop mowed. Here are some pics.
