N FLA | Well a couple of the guys have been helping me with my sell-buy. So far I've sold the calves, plus problem cows, (raised runt calves, lost calves, bad attitude). All the runt calves are represented on this sheet, with their respective cow. All other calves (26) averaged $1050 and I still have those cows. The 3 pair cows I sold this week were bred, so I suspect my bull corps will have some breds for me to keep over from the cows that raised good quality calves.
Anyway all the cows I've bought until recently were just to flip at Labor Day. The last two sales I started buying bred cows for next winter. This week two 1300& 1350# Beefmasters 5 months bred @ $1.15 were part of a pure bred beefmaster herd liquidation. Only cows they had that were on my price sheet. I'd imagine these cows will add 200# easily, but my target is fall/winter calves to raise on rye. I will just keep trying to pick them up as I can. And make more sales in June.
