Subject: Can I keep non gmo seed for next year?

I have a question on weather or not I can keep my non gmo beans that I harvest, clean them, germ them, and plant them for the next year? I have heard many different thing. If you buy from the big "m" it is ok because to my knowledge there is no tech fee contract? If you buy weed from the big "d" then u can't keep for seed because there is a contract tech fee issue? Any clarity would be great
