West Central Wisconsin | Getting ready to start building my cattle working area. This is a pole shed that used to be "main" barn for dad. It sits right next to our big feedlot barn. I want to utilize the space that we are given with the following guidlines 1. lowest cost possible (plan to replace this barn in 5-7 years) 2. keep the big pen usable for a sick pen or for a calving pen for my wife's heifers. 3. least amount of concrete demolition/ repair. I just bought a for-most head gate and chute. We already have the platform scale. I plan to build the chute area out of wood with post cemented into the floor. I plan to have a cat-walk the full distance on the outside of the chute for helping work the cattle. Any thoughts? This layout seems to work the best in my mind. Do cattle have a hard time at 45 degree corners?
This will be used with 300- 800 lbs holsteins for sure and possible all the way to finish.
Thanks
Cory
